We recently got a good first look at the highly-awaited Starfield during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, and shortly afterward, creative director Todd Howard a,so talked in brief about the game’s length in a follow-up interview with IGN. During the interview, Howard said that Starfield will end up being longer to beat than Bethesda Game Studios’ previous games.

According to Howard, Starfield will take around 30 to 40 hours to beat, which is around 20% longer than previous Bethesda RPGs. Howard says that this additional length can be attributed to the sheer number of quests that players will have to necessarily complete to roll the credits. It’s also important to know that this is subject to change since the game is still being worked upon.

“[Starfield‘s game length] might be in the 30s, maybe 40″, Howard said.

“This one’s ending up a little bit longer [than our previous games] and we may tune that some still,” he added. “It’s more quests, so it might be 20% more than our previous ones.”

Howard acknowledged that many fans like to play Bethesda’s RPGs for long periods of time, and that’s simply because there’s just so much to do and explore. He said that while the team will be working on post-release DLCs and expansions for Starfield, the modding community will also provide plenty of interesting content for the game since there are so many opportunities for tinkerers.

“We’ve learned that people do play our games for a really, really long time,” he said. “They’re still playing Skyrim – not straight for 10 years, but they leave it and they come back and there’s extra content. Certainly we’re going to be doing extra content for this game, and we love our modding community. We actually think this game, for our modding community, is going to be a dream as there’s so much they could do.”

In the same interview, Todd Howard also confirmed that Fallout 5 will be the studio’s next game after Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6– read more on that through here.
