“Making the Best Starfield is Absolutely Our Goal” – Xbox Boss

Xbox boss Phil Spencer addresses previous statements about how Starfield's success may or may not impact competition with the PS5.

Widespread opinions can change very quickly in the games industry. Not too long ago, Xbox as a whole was under fire from all directions, thanks in large part to the disastrous launch of Redfall, but the last week has brought about a remarkable turnaround in the consensus. That, of course, has been driven massively by the impressive and comprehensive showing of Starfield at the recent Xbox Games Showcase- though Starfield itself and whether or not it’d be as good as Xbox needed it to be had also come into question earlier in the year.

In the wake of Redfall’s release, Xbox boss Phil Spencer himself spoke about the same, and said that there was “no world where Starfield is an 11 out of 10, and people start selling their PS5″. In a recent interview with The Guardian, however, he addressed those comments, stating that he wasn’t happy in hindsight with what he said, and that the goal for Microsoft is to make the upcoming space-faring RPG the best that it can be.

“The part I didn’t like about what I said was, quality games are critically important to our strategy,” Spencer said. “So it’s not that Starfield getting an 11 out of 10 isn’t our goal – although, that’s a silly way of putting it. I don’t know if I’m going to use review scores as the mark of all quality. But making the best Starfield is absolutely our goal. I want to build the absolute best games we can.”

Starfield is set to launch on September 6 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will run at 4K/30 FPS on Xbox Series X, and 1440p/30 FPS on Xbox Series S. You can also check out its (rather demanding) PC requirements through here.
