AND Ceramic Studio

Founded by Amanda Popkin and Danielle Tuchelt, AND is a true collaboration where each piece represents a blend of their distinct artistic visions. Opened Window

Opened Window is a research and design practice founded by Dena Smith and Sam McInnis. Their work focuses on exploring the philosophical dimensions of objects, aiming to uncover how objects tell stories and help us understand our values and identities. Together, they examine the influence of surroundings on shaping perspectives and behaviors, using their practice to delve into the deeper connections between people and the environments they inhabit.

Lagomorph

Lagomorph explores alternate narratives to fill the gaps left by capitalism and colonialism, focusing on inner truths and new possibilities. Their work bridges the intersections of liberation, queer histories, working-class struggles, generational trauma, environmentalism, and politics, using storytelling to make these complex histories relatable and digestible. Through imaginative objects, drawings, prints, and stories, lagomorph creates layered, abstract pieces that invite open-ended interpretations, connecting the past with potential futures.

Inspired by the outdoors, Kirby Mclean’s work is a testament to the power of play and emotional connection in design. This year, the Interior Design Show returns to the Vancouver Convention Centre West from Thursday, September 26 to Sunday, September 29. The opening night party kicks off on Thursday, 7pm – 10pm, for both trade and consumers. Friday, September 27 is dedicated to trade attendees (9am – 6pm), while the show opens to the public on Saturday and Sunday (10am – 5pm), making it the perfect weekend event for design lovers. Summer is upon us and you’ve probably noticed more and more motorcyclists on the roads. If you’re considering getting your license and buying your first motorcycle, it’s important to do your research beforehand. Riding a motorcycle is an undeniably thrilling and liberating experience, however it also requires a certain level of skill and responsibility. As a new rider myself, here are 3 you should know before getting into motorcycles.

Choose the Right Type of Bike

When it comes to motorcycles, there are a number of different styles to choose from, including cruisers, sportbikes, touring bikes, and more. It’s important to choose a bike that fits your body and desired riding style. As an example. if you’re on the taller side, a cruiser might be better fit than a sportbike. Similarly, if you plan on doing a lot of long-distance riding, a touring bike might be a better option. 

Consider the Power of the Motorcycle

Another important factor to consider is the power of the motorcycle. While it might be tempting to go for the biggest and most powerful bike you can find, it’s important to choose a bike that you can handle safely. A bike that is too powerful can be difficult to control, especially for a beginner. Consider starting with a smaller bike with less power, especially if you’re a thrill seeker that likes to push the limits. You can always upgrade down the line once you’ve gained more experience, confidence, and familiarity with the roads.

Prioritize Safety

Most importantly, safety should always be top of mind when riding a motorcycle. Be sure to invest in quality safety gear. While a helmet is mandatory, go beyond the minimum and pick yourself up some gloves, boots, a pair of padded pants or Kevlar jeans, and a padded or leather jacket. Finally, make sure your gear is comfortable. If it’s not comfortable, you’re not going to want to wear it.

You should also consider taking a motorcycle safety course before hitting the road. These courses will teach you the fundamentals of riding, as well as important safety tips and techniques. Sure, between the gear and the courses, the price tag can definitely climb, but at the end of the day you’re investing in your safety and it could be the difference between a nice ride with some friends or the last ride you go on.

Buying your first motorcycle is an exciting process, but it’s important to do research and prioritize safety. By choosing the right bike, investing in quality and comfortable safety gear, and taking a motorcycle course, you can enjoy the roads while minimizing the risks.

A new premium auto clubhouse is coming to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It will serve as the newest central gathering space for car collectors and enthusiasts alike. The Hagerty Garage + Social Toronto, set to open its doors to the public in the Fall, will offer a wide suite of services and experiences that includes driving tours, track days, test-drive events and more.

If you are a collector, this is the place to be. The Burlington-based facility will provide climate-controlled, dust-free storage for all the classic, collector, and exotic cars and motorcycles you can imagine. “Car enthusiasts and collectors consistently tell us that they want premium storage for their beloved cars as well as more opportunity to meet, interact and share their passion with others,” said McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty.

The clubhouse is the first of its kind in Canada. It follows on the successful openings of locations in Chicago, Delray Beach, and New York. Members of Hagerty Garage + Social will have access to a series of amenities that includes a Scotch and cigar lounge, a bar and restaurant, 32-seat cinema, golf simulators, and virtual racing simulators alongside meeting spaces. Long gone will be the days of parking lot meet ups.
