There are two reasons to organize your battlestation – for visual reasons and for functional reasons. Let’s face it – empty chip bags and exposed power strips aren’t the most pleasant items to look at, nor do they add to the gaming experience.

But that’s the best part of the gaming setup – you can design and tailor your space however you want to, whether you prefer natural wood elements, neon lights, or a sleek and minimalistic feel. 

To make your space uniquely yours, it can help to define a theme. If you want the space to reflect all your favourite games, characters, and genres, you could display figurines, put up framed artwork, and even choose other decor knick-knacks that fit the bill. Smart lighting solutions like hue lights and bulb dimmers can set the mood, and skins and decals are often the best way to jazz up gaming peripherals so they don’t look like every other accessory on the shelves.

Keeping up with maintenance

Once you’re all set up, you’ll find that your space won’t look as pristine as it does in the beginning. With time and use, you might start seeing dust build-up, irrelevant items creeping onto your desk, fraying cables, or even deteriorating hardware.

Keeping your space maintained is just as important as transforming your setup in the first place – think cleaning putty, microfiber cloths, air dusters, and soft brushes to keep it spic and span. It’s no bimmer, yet arguably just as fast.

Wasn’t quite expecting this news, so soon, given that Apple just released the M2 MacBook Air last June–and the M3 MacBook Pro this last fall. But given that it’s their most popular laptop in the world and that the new M3 chips are the post powerful on the market right now, it only makes sense. Cha’ ching! Luckily, I got an opportunity to get behind it ahead of the release tomorrow, in order to fill you in and let me tell you, it has not ceased to impress me.

But I know what you’re thinking… do I need this shiny new device, or can I wait? The good news is, I’m going to break it all down for you, right here.

The MacBook Air featuring the M3 chip, is offered in the 13-inch and 15-inch sizes (I got to personally try out the 15-inch, which I have typically strayed away from, but now understand why bigger is better) and available in midnight (black–featuring an improved anodization coating to minimize fingerprint marks), starlight (light gold), silver, and space grey colours. The laptop’s physical design remains unchanged from its predecessor, the MacBook Air with the M2 chip, with its distinguishing factor being its enhanced performance.

The casings of both the 13-inch and 15-inch Air M3 models are identical to their M2 predecessors: they feature the same wedgeless design, dimensions, weight, and color options. Essentially, everything remains unchanged. If you were to compare the two side by side, distinguishing between those with an M2 chip and those with an M3 chip would likely be challenging.

When Apple unveils a new product, you have three clear paths to choose from: you either purchase the new device, stick with your current one, or opt for the previous model at a now discounted price (which has some obvious risks).

Although, it’s difficult not to love this laptop, but I’ll delve into my personal feelings about the MacBook Air M3 15-inch and share my recommendations below.

Here are my 3 things I like most about the new M3 chip Apple MacBook Air:

I’d say that for this release, the MacBook Air M3 stands out as an exceptional (and personal favourite) choice, derived mostly by Apple’s latest, swiftest, and most potent chip: the M3. If you’re currently using the MacBook Air M2 or M1, upgrading to the M3 might not be necessary. However, for individuals heavily reliant on their computers for work, education, or leisure pursuits, the M3’s fresh features could enhance efficiency.

1. Lightning speed

Especially when we’re all trying to embrace these new AI tools these days (like me sitting patiently for my Photoshop Beta to run til now), it could get quite daunting if you’re not well “equipped.” The M3 chip significantly boosts the speed of the Air without sacrificing battery life. In my testing, I put the computer through its paces by running all the programs I typically use, such as rendering photos, playing videos, and browsing with multiple tabs open. Despite this demanding workload, the speed remained consistent.

Despite the compact size, it doesn’t sacrifice battery life either. Easily getting through your day on a single charge with up to 15-hours of browsing and up to 18-hours of video playback, for binge-watching the latest on Apple TV.

I could comfortably say, I definitely noticed a difference between using the M1 and M3 Air models. However, those who regularly use more resource heavy apps—like Final Cut Pro—or not at all, may or may not experience such a obvious difference with the M3. That said, Apple does confirm that the M3 is 60% faster than the M1 and 13x faster than the Intel-based MacBook Air–and lets not forget AV1 decode for better streaming (which makes it perfect for gaming). A noticable difference without needing to upgrade to the Pro model and take on the extra weight (and price difference).

The M3 chip really does bring enhanced support for AI capabilities, earning it the title of “World’s Best Consumer Laptop for AI” according to Apple. If you’re intending to use AI apps like Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 or Canva, Luminar Neo or Adobe Photoshop (for photo editing, especially with AI tools), opting for this latest Air model could be advantageous–and save you a lot of time. And time, is money.

2. Dual screens

Expanding the M3 Air to utilize two screens is a straightforward task, but accommodating three screens isn’t possible. If you prefer working with dual screens, connecting the Air to two external monitors is achievable, although you’ll need to keep the laptop closed. (On a side note, I must admit, the way the MacBook closes feels remarkably smooth and futuristic—a small detail but incredibly satisfying.)

Personally, I favor the 15-inch model because it offers ample space to comfortably display multiple windows. However, professionals such as video/photo editors, business owners, or other creatives might find the option to transform the highly portable Air into a robust multi-screen computing setup particularly appealing.

But that’s not all, you can also sidecar your iPad(s) too and arrange them in the settings to either be to the left or right of you, etc. too. I tested it out with a standard USB-C connected screen, my AppleTV, and my iPad. It’s epic. Talk about efficiency. But I won’t go into too much about that now. I have a whole other article planned to deep dive into efficiency tips n’ tricks, so stay tuned.

3. Light, sleek n’ sexy

IYKYK, I definitely had my eyes set on the midnight black colour, especially since they introduced the new finishing that limits finger prints. The verdict is, sadly there’s still prints (unavoidable when you’re oily, like me I guess), but I am sure it’s MUCH LESS than if it didn’t. But that’s not all, the super sleek design (unless the prior wedge design, compact silhouette, and the fact that it’s lightweight…TOTALLY has me loving this as a viable option over the M3 MacBook Pro (which is not as sleek, to say the least).

All in all: 10s across the board for the MacBook Air M3

If you haven’t noticed, I’m clearly obsessed and if your current device isn’t meeting your needs and you have a budget of $1,749 to spare, opting for the M3 and bypassing the M2 would surely be a wise choice. Given the rapid evolution of AI, having the latest “consumer” technology can offer invaluable support for current and future programs. If not, then waiting for the next evolution wouldn’t be so bad (especially if you’re not doing anything like gaming or anything that requires heavier processing power like photo or video editing). That said, if you’re on an Intel-based MacBook Air, then you’re long overdue. You’d be what I’d call the perfect candidate for the upgrade! If you’re a gamer, don’t even think twice.

Having been part of the Apple ecosystem for quite some time, I’ve grown to appreciate how all their devices, from the iPad and iPhone to the iMac and Apple Watch, seamlessly integrate with each other. I find that when all my Apple products are operating at their best, it enables me to perform at my best—a bit cliché perhaps, but it’s true. And let’s be honest, there’s also a certain allure to having the latest, greatest and shiniest Apple gadgets.
